It appears I visit/update my site so infrequently it took more than a week to notice my web hosting account expired.

Anyway, all is well again.

David Simon

Vice has an in-depth interview with David Simon, creator of the HBO series The Wire. In many ways Simon as an interviewee is like Tarantino as a director, repeating himself over and over again, moving closer and closer to perfection—all the while, somehow making us feel as if we’re experiencing something new each time. Well, this interview with Vice magazine is the Inglourious Basterds of interviews—a masterpiece. Seriously. Don’t bother reading his old interviews and op-ed pieces, this article is pretty much the definitive David Simon angry rant on everything—the intent of The Wire, the death of journalism, institutionalized poverty, etc.

Gloria Steinem on Obscurantism

Here are some words to live by—excerpted from an old Mother Jones’ interview with feminist activist Gloria Steinem:

These poor women in academia have to talk this silly language that nobody can understand in order to be accepted, they think. If I read the word “problematize” one more time, I’m going to vomit. If I hear people talking about “feminist praxis”–I mean, it’s practice, say practice. But I recognize the fact that we have this ridiculous system of tenure, that the whole thrust of academia is one that values education, in my opinion, in inverse ratio to its usefulness–and what you write in inverse relationship to its understandability. So I think the answer to it is to look with some compassion at the situation in which the women who are writing this gobbledygook find themselves and to say, “How can we solve this?”

Preach on sister!

Girls Can Cum Too

I have written a short article for Sirens magazine about female ejaculation.

Deer Hunting With Jesus

The Spiteful Critic has published my interview with Joe Bageant, author of Deer Hunting With Jesus.

BAGEANT: If I can be said to have a goal, it is simply to be on record after I die as one of the people in America that tried not to be complicit in the empire’s crimes: shakedown of its people; its murders of dark skinned children in the Middle east and elsewhere; its debasement and defiling of human culture for profit; its propagation of a malignant and destructive financial system around the globe; or any of the terrible things I have witnessed done in our names.
